The challenge

Brief

Challenge question: How can Sarajevo use digital technologies and data-driven solutions to improve the reliability, accessibility and user experience of public transport? Urban public transport systems face challenges involving timetable reliability, passenger information, service accessibility, fleet management and integration with other modes of transport. Innovative digital solutions can help transport operators and city authorities improve the efficiency and attractiveness of public transport. This Pre-Final is a rehearsal and formative assessment, not an elimination round: all eligible Advanced teams advance to the Final Demo Day, and jury feedback helps you improve before the final challenge.

Requirements

Propose a technology-based solution addressing one identifiable public transport challenge. Demonstrate the technical logic of the solution, potential users, required data or technologies, feasibility and expected impact, with enough technical detail to show your capacity to develop the concept further. Potential approaches include: - Real-time passenger information - Data-driven transport service optimisation - Accessibility improvements - Smart mobility dashboards - Multimodal journey planning - Predictive analysis of service disruptions No working prototype is required for the Pre-Final.

Deliverables

A seven-slide PowerPoint presentation using the mandatory CityMakers template, uploaded to your team workspace before the deadline.

How it works

Phase 1 · Initial round

This challenge

All teams in the track work on the Initial challenge in their private workspace. At the deadline workspaces lock, moderators review every submission and select the finalists.

Phase 2 · Finale

Finalists choose one Finale challenge, keep building until the Finale deadline and present their prototype at in-person judging. Results and winning projects are then published.

Teams have up to 5 members and compete only against teams in the same track.
